Jason C. Preciphs is an associate engaged in the firm’s litigation practice who, additionally, advises the firm’s clients regarding software licensing, e-commerce and computer and internet law.  He is licensed to practice law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and to appear before the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island and the First Circuit Court of Appeals.  He has been with the firm since 2003.

 

Mr. Preciphs is a 1998 graduate of Brown University, where he received a Howard R. Swearer Award for Public Service, and a 2002 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School where Mr. Preciphs was contributing editor for the Michigan Journal of Race & Law.

 

Mr. Preciphs handles a variety of litigation matters and makes regular appearances in the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Supreme Court, the Rhode Island and Massachusetts Superior and District Courts and the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights.  He authors legal memoranda for trial and appellate courts and argues discovery and dispositive motions involving business and intellectual property disputes, medical malpractice defense, construction, insurance disputes, real estate, public sector affairs, personal injury matters and employment disputes. He has drafted legislation for the City of Providence and the Rhode Island General Assembly and has appeared as trial counsel before juries in federal and state litigation.  Mr. Preciphs has authored and argued appeals yielding representative decisions from the Rhode Island Supreme Court and the First Circuit Court of Appeals.

 

Mr. Preciphs’ community activities include membership on the boards of directors of Family Service of Rhode Island (2008-present) and AIDS Project Rhode Island (2004-2008).  Additionally, he is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the American Inns of Court.

 

Mr. Preciphs has hiked the entire North-South Trail through Rhode Island.  His other hobbies include mountain climbing, photography, maple sugaring and membership in the Rhode Island Tropical Fish Society.
