James A. Musgrave is a shareholder with the firm. He concentrates his practice in the areas labor and employment law and civil litigation. He is licensed to practice law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and to appear before the United States District Courts for the Districts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, as well as the First Circuit Court of Appeals. He has been with the firm since 2002.

In 1999 Mr. Musgrave was awarded a B.A. in Political Science and History from Emory University, in Atlanta, GA, graduating in the top five percent of his class. He received his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2002.

Mr. Musgrave assists his clients in solving their employment problems before they result in litigation through the negotiation and drafting of employment contracts, the preparation and implementation of employee handbooks and by keeping his clients abreast of the ever changing and increasingly complex web of statutes, regulations and precedent governing the employment relationship. Mr. Musgrave has handled matters in a variety of administrative venues, including the National Labor Relations Board, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, the Massachusetts Labor Relations Commission, the Rhode Island Board of Review, the Rhode Island Labor Relations Board, the Rhode Island Commission on Human Rights and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. He has also handled employment litigation, including claims of employment discrimination, trade secret disputes and matters involving covenants not to compete, in the Rhode Island and Massachusetts trial courts. Finally, Mr. Musgrave also has extensive experience in the arbitration of employment disputes under the auspices of the American Arbitration Association and the Labor Relations Connection.

Mr. Musgrave's litigation practice is not limited to the labor and employment arena. He handles lawsuits involving personal injury, construction disputes, as well as substantial general business litigation. He regularly appears before the Rhode Island Superior Court and has authored and argued a number of appeals before the Rhode Island Supreme Court and the First Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Musgrave is an active member of the Rhode Bar Association and has written a variety of presentations on employment issues for its members. He has served as counsel to Greater City: Providence a non-profit organization which strives to foster the development of more walkable, affordable, and vibrant neighborhoods in the Greater Providence region.

Mr. Musgrave is an ambitious home cook and an avid consumer of Rhode Island's many and varied culinary offerings. His other hobbies include basketball and the Red Sox.
